Established in 2019, the Menstruation Research Network UK has partaken and documented a change in the discourse, policy, and media surrounding menstruation. Since then, Scotland has passed the Period Product (Free) Provision Bill, and England has formed the End Period Poverty Task Force, with the network lending interdisciplinary expertise about menstruation to both.
Today, the continuation of our work is more necessary than ever, as menstrual discourse moves from a focus on products to a larger debate about underlying structural issues, such as health and pain, education, and shame, and menstruation and fertility that are increasingly influenced, emphasised and managed using digital technology, both within and outside of formal health and social care services. Our aim is to grow the network and develop bids for ambitious funding programs, such as Horizon Europe.
