Professor awarded honorary title in Russia

A University of Aberdeen Professor has been awarded an honorary role at a top Russian university, in recognition of his work in forging links between the two institutions.

David Macdonald, Professor of Petroleum Geology in the School of Geosciences, was awarded an Honorary Professorship from Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) located in the city of Perm, a major centre for oil exploration and production.

He received the honour while delivering a masterclass in petroleum exploration to final year undergraduate students at the university, where he has taught since 2012.

Commenting on the award, Professor Macdonald said: “I am delighted to receive this honorary Professorship, which is testament to the efforts of all those who have encouraged closer ties between our two great institutions.

“As a major centre for oil and gas production Perm has obvious similarities with Aberdeen, and the links that we have developed have led to collaborations which have been of mutual benefit to our staff and students.

“Over the past few years I have been joined by a number of my colleagues in delivering courses at PNRPU, and I look forward to working together as we continue to build on the excellent relationship between both universities.”
