The Chemistry Department, together with colleagues from the School of Biological Sciences, the Institute of Medical Sciences and the Rowett Research Institute, with the support of several local companies, have received funding via the BBSRC ALERT-22 Scheme to purchase a high-end LC-MS system optimised for the analysis of small molecules. The system will be used to discover bioactive natural products, understand biological synthesis of small molecules, understand microbial processes in soil, study chemical communication between sponges and molluscs, analyse archaeological artefacts, understand disease causation as well as discover new pharmaceuticals.
