Broue's conjecture and groups of Lie type

Broue's conjecture posits the existence of a derived equivalence between a block with abelian defect group and its Brauer correspondent. In its abstract form, for any finite group, this conjecture is only an existence statement, but for unipotent blocks of finite groups of Lie type one can be more specific, the so-called geometric form. This talk will introduce this conjecture and describe some (very) recent advances in this area.
