Genomics Quick Links
The Centre for Genome Enabled Biology and Medicine (CGEBM) was established in 2012 as part of a strategic investment in genomics at Aberdeen. The creation of CGEBM brought together our existing genomics capabiilities alongside investment in people, infrastructure and facilities, including next generation sequencing (NGS) capacity and bioinformatics , to provide Aberdeen with state of the art facilities and expertise to facilitate leading research across diverse fields.
CGEBM delivers services in Illumina short read next generation sequencing, Oxford Nanopore long read sequencing, single cell genomics and bioinformatics, as well as a training and teaching portfolio in genomics and bioinformatics.
For further information on our expertise and activities, please see an overview of current projects, publications, grants and community events supported by CGEBM. Please contact us to discuss your research needs.
A completed Project Form is required from you prior to scheduling of projects and services in CGEBM.
Using CGEBM services
Initial project discussion and enquiries should be made to Dr Elaina Collie-Duguid , CGEBM Manager, if you wish to discuss your requirements, and advice for grant submissions, and experimental design can be provided. You should aim to provide us with a minimum of 3 weeks' notice to allow time for project discussions and enable us to provide you with accurate plans and costs for the proposed study.
You will be provided with an expected completion date when you have your samples ready for transfer to our facility. Please contact CGEBM for any technical enquiries, or to receive an update on your project.
A Project Form must be completed for each CGEBM supported project. Please obtain your project reference number from CGEBM staff. Please note we are unable to schedule your project until we have the completed signed form.
A Material Transfer Record must be completed and provided at the time of sample transfer to CGEBM staff. Only one project form is required per project. However, a Material Transfer record must be completed for each separate batch of samples brought to CGEBM for processing. All relevant metadata should be provided with each batch of samples. This should be provided in a excel spreadsheet and include grouping variables, replicates, and any batching information. Please provide all data that is relevant to technical or biological sources of variation in your samples, with one variable per column and one sample per row.
Please contact us if you require assistance in completion of the Project Form .
Other Resources
CGEBM lies within the College of Life Sciences and Medicine (CLSM). There are a broad range of additional advanced technologies available within CLSM with important applications in genomics research. These include:
- Target Validation: Proteomics and qPCR for downstream validation of novel targets/genes.
- Peptide and Antibody Screening of Novel Candidates: The Scottish Biologics Facility for peptide and antibody screening of identified targets.
- Flow cytometry: The Iain Fraser Cytometry centre (IFCC) has a broad range of state-of-the-art equipment for cell and particle analysis and sorting. The IFCC provides specialist services for single cell sorting upstream of single cell genomics in CGEBM.
- Microscopy and Histology: The Microscopy and Histology Core facility provides access to equipment and training for histological analyses, an important part of spatial genomics.
