Annual Academic Development Symposium

Toni Gibson and Emily Cleland, IAHS Teaching Fellows and Work-Based Placement in Applied Health Sciences Course Co-ordinators, shared insights in a panel discussion entitled 'Inclusion and Internationalisation' at the 2024 University of Aberdeen Annual Academic Symposium.

Their focus was on the meaningful international experiences provided by the Work-Based Learning courses that prepare our taught postgraduate students to be critical global citizens. Toni underscored the international scope of both students and the organisations hosting work-based placements, emphasising the mutual benefits derived from diverse experiences. Emily described the comprehensive support mechanisms in place, enabling students to not only thrive whilst on placement but also to prepare for the transition into their professional journeys through targeted skill and attribute development initiatives as well as the sharing of placement experiences between students.

The panel also included both student and staff representatives from the Go Abroad Team and the School of Engineering, resulting in the exchange of examples and experiences of international opportunities for students across the institution.
