The inaugural “Essentials of Epidemiology in Reproductive Health” course was held 6th-9th October 2014 at the Sir Duncan Rice Library. This unique course attracted 19 students from 8 countries and 3 continents and provided them with tuition in Study Design, Disease Measurement, Statistics and Methodology.
The faculty involved in the course wer Professor Gary J Macfarlane (course director), Dr. Gareth Jones, Dr. Sohinee Bhattacharya (from the Epidemiology Group, IAHS), Professor Siladitya Bhattacharya (Obstetrics and Gynaecology, IAHS) and Dr. Tatiana Macfarlane (Dental School). External faculty involved included Professor Jane Norman (University of Edinburgh) and Dr. Lee Middleton (University of Birmingham).
This course was based upon on the successful “Intensive Course in Applied Epidemiology” which will run for the eighth year in Aberdeen this coming March. Bursaries are available to help those employed by NHS Scotland to attend, details at: www.abdn.ac.uk/epidemiology.
