Our annual course celebrates its 30th iteration in 2023, and we are delighted to invite delegates from around the world to join us for the occasion.
Booking is now open for a place on our long-standing Intensive Course in Applied Epidemiology. Now in its 30th year, the course provides a solid grounding in key epidemiological topics including:
- disease measurement
- principles of epidemiological study design and analysis
- collection of data in epidemiological studies
- methodological considerations including bias, confounding, validity, and reliability
The course assumes no prior epidemiological training and covers basic topics in each of the above areas, as well as some more advanced topics.
The first course was held in 1991 in Manchester with a faculty which included Alan Silman, Peter Croft and Deborah Symmons. Over its 30 iterations the course has welcomed delegates from across Europe, North and South America, Asia, Oceania and Africa. Last year we returned to a face-to-face format after having gone online during the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, and we are looking forward to once again welcoming delegates to Aberdeen in March 2023.
Head of Epidemiology, Professor Gary Macfarlane said:
“Many of our delegates have gone on to establish careers undertaking research in rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions and we hope attending ICAE has played a small part in developing their skills and interest in epidemiological approaches.”
The course will run from Monday 6th – Friday 10th March 2023, and will be held in the University’s iconic Sir Duncan Rice library. You can find out more information about the course, including the latest updates here.
