Oropharyngeal cancer incidence is increasing with human papillomavirus (HPV) linked to the rise. P16 has been suggested as a marker of HPV status but does not capture all cases. This multicentre study highlights that survival is substantially better in HPV positive oropharyngeal cancers and that testing for HPV should be included in cancer staging.
