North Sea Fish Migration Atlas

North Sea Fish Migration Atlas

The North Sea Fish Migration Atlas an electronic atlas which combines GIS-based maps with data and information, photographs, educational materials, tutorials, software, and downloads.  The atlas forms an example of the ICAN (International Coastal Atlas Network) project and uses TimeMap software, a Java applet-based web-mapping system, to deliver the GIS-based maps which provide access to fish migration information for the North Sea Region. In addition, there is a Google Earth version and a new version implemented in ArcGIS Server.

The North Sea Fish Migration Atlas is one outcome of the research work carried out on the Interreg IVB Living North Sea (LNS) project (www.livingnorthsea.eu) and has been developed with the aid of spatial datasets and information for the countries around the North Sea Region (NSR) as an example developed as part of the International Coastal Atlas Network (ICAN) (http://ican.science.oregonstate.edu/).

We are always on the lookout for new data and information to enhance the atlas, as not all countries are as well represented in the atlas as others.

Please feel free to browse the atlas contents and to examine the maps displayed in TimeMap, or to contact us. We are always keen to gather new data and information for the countries around the North Sea, and welcome new input.
