MLE Rural Surveying and Rural Property Management
Why did you choose this degree programme at the University of Aberdeen?
I wanted to get a good grounding in how Scotland's land and coastline is managed, as well as into the emerging natural capital markets and rural surveying techniques.
What skills, knowledge or experience did you gain or develop on this degree programme?
A broad knowledge base of the key factors influencing Scotland's land uses. In particular, I explored how rewilding projects in Scotland are funded, through my dissertation project, supported by the staff at Aberdeen. The guest speakers who were invited to talk and class field trips were particularly valuable in giving specific industry insight - from peatland restoration to ecology and estate management.
Tell us about your career since graduating.
I have joined Highlands Rewilding Ltd as their Head of Marketing and Media, utilising both my previous marketing experience, and the knowledge gained on the MLE course, which supports everything I do for this company whose focus is on natural capital verification science.
What advice would you give another student who is considering applying to this programme?
Though this course is particularly suited to those looking for a career in Rural Surveying, I found the breadth of topics studied, alongside the informative site visits and expert speaker programme to be very valuable in grounding me in Scotland's land management. This has set me up well for a career within this broad sector.
