The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) is the foremost world-wide organisation for the promotion of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Its national offshoot is the British and Irish Chapter of ISMRM (BIC-ISMRM), which holds an annual Scientific Meeting, in the Autumn. This year’s conference theme will be “New Horizons in MRI”. The conference will bring together scientists, doctors and students concerned with the development and use of MRI from a broad range of disciplinary and geographical regions, primarily from the UK and Ireland, but also from Europe.
The University of Aberdeen has a long history of research in MRI; the first whole-body MRI scanner was developed here in the late 1970s and the first-ever diagnostic body scan took place at the University of Aberdeen in 1980. The conference will include a visit to the “Mark-I” scanner at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, as well as the laboratories where current MRI research is taking place.
The event will be held over three days in September 2023. The first day will consist of a Workshop on the highly topical subject of Low-Field MRI. The following two days will include invited, oral and poster presentations on all aspects of MRI.
An array of fantastic speakers have agreed to deliver invited lectures at the conference and we are delighted that Professor Fiona Gilbert (University of Cambridge) will deliver the flagship Bill Moore Lecture at this year’s meeting.
