Scotland’s national dish is a source of endless jokes and stories and yet provokes huge curiosity around the globe. Unloved by some and passionately consumed by others, haggis has a bit of a bad-boy image to contend with. How did this humble dish come by such a contradictory reputation? Jo Macsween, of the famous family of Edinburgh haggis makers, will expertly guide you through the myths and mystery to a new realm of haggis appreciation that transcends neeps, tatties and Burns Night. Hot tastings of Macsween traditional and vegetarian haggis will be served.
Jo Macsween is the Managing Director of Macsween of Edinburgh, a premium manufacturer of specialist food products and the market leader in haggis. She is the author of ‘The Macsween Haggis Bible’ and is an alumnus of Robert Gordon University (Diploma in Management Studies), a professionally qualified marketer (Chartered Institute of Marketing), and has over twenty years of SME experience. Under Jo’s leadership, her third-generation family business has evolved into an internationally recognised brand, synonymous with product quality and strong ethical values. Jo believes that scale is no barrier to being an influential world class player in the fast moving world of food.
Jo was the recent recipient of the 2015 ‘Female Director Award’ presented by The Institute of Directors, Scotland. She is a member of ‘Vistage’, a private advisory group of CEOs, and ‘Changing the Chemistry’ which seeks to achieve greater diversity on boards. She also sits on the board of The Tron Theatre Company based in Glasgow.
