The Elphinstone Institute houses significant resources for use by university students and staff, as well as external scholars (by appointment). 

• The Elphinstone Kist is an extensive digital resource of Scots writing accessible to all, but particularly designed for use by schools.
• The Buchan Library is the North-East's only reference library dedicated to Folklore, Ethnology and Ethnomusicology.
• The Elphinstone Institute Archives hold an impressive and ever-growing collection of audio and video recordings, as well as images and digitized manuscripts.
