Scots in Skweel: forbidden, forlane bit nivver forfochen– the past, present and future of our mither tongue

A look at Scots in Scottish schools: what is has been, where it is and where it could be. Beginning in the reign of James VI, this talk aims to give a brief overview of how Scots arrived at its current position in Scots schools.  This position will be examined and explored.  Finally, the work of the Scots Language Co-ordinators will be outlined. The talk will be delivered in accessible Scots, with an English hand-out for those who need it; questions are welcomed in either language.

Diane Anderson is one of four Scots Language Co-ordinators currently seconded to Education Scotland. She has been Principal Teacher of English at Morgan Academy in Dundee for eight years, previously having taught in secondary schools in Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as in England.  She was brought up in Macduff and is a Doric speaker.
