Join us to learn about what we do and our programmes of study

Learn about our 1-year (full time) or 2-year (part time) Master's programme at the Elphinstone Institute, University of Aberdeen

We are all innately creative, whether through the stories we recount, the jokes we tell, the songs we sing, the traditions we keep, the online 'memes' we create and share, our customs and beliefs, the ways we remember those who have passed away, the festivals we celebrate, or the clothes we wear. These creative everyday expressions are the core of what we study at the Elphinstone Institute

The Elphinstone Institute is a centre for the study of Ethnology, Folklore, and Ethnomusicology at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Established in 1995 in celebration of the quincentenary of the university's founding, the Institute researches and promotes the culture of the North and North-East of Scotland in context.

The Institute offers a Taught MLitt (Master’s) degree in Ethnology and Folklore recognised by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and supervision for the research degrees MLitt Res and PhD.

Join Institute staff and students on Zoom to learn about our 1-year Master's programme at the University of Aberdeen in Ethnology and Folklore. There will be opportunities to hear about the programme, ask questions, and enjoy short pre-recorded performances by local performers. For further information on our programmes of study see Programmes of Study | Elphinstone Institute | The University of Aberdeen (abdn.ac.uk)
