Description
There are two Fraser/Saltoun Mausoleums the old one which is situated adjacent to the Old Parish Church in Saltoun Square, and a more recent ? one which stands by itself in the Kirkton cemetery. They are almost identical in Gothic style, with curious stepped pyramid roofs surmounted by obelisks topped with an egg shape. The older 18th cent one is harled and the more recent is in exposed dressed granite.
Related Information
The Church of Philorth, dedicated to St. Medan, is first mentioned in 1296. It stood in the old graveyard on the Links near the farm of Kirktown (Pratt 1858) but was abandoned in 1574 (HBD No. 1).

The theory that part of the church walls still stand on the E and W walls of the mausoleum of the Frasers of Park is wrong because when the graveyard was extended in 1910 the massive, well-defined foundations of the church were found partly within and partly without the west wall of the original graveyard.

There is no trace of the church. Part of the old graveyard wall (restored) still stands, 0.6m thick and in places 2.2m high.
