Related Information
Queen Victoria bought Balmoral Estate in 1852 and spend a lot of her time there. She was the first royal to travel by train to Ballater and used this way of transport to visit her Highland estate. However she refused permission to extend the railway to Braemar as this would have meant a railway track going through her estate.
