George and Ann Thomson Memorial Fountain

George and Ann Thomson Memorial Fountain

Location

Sits in the field south of Delgatie castle.
Turriff, Aberdeenshire

Date

1910

Description

An Italianate fountain with a sophisticated urban look that does not really suit its current location where it looks a bit lost.

Related Information

Built in 1910 and originally stood in Turriff Square. Farmer George Thomson complained that there was nowhere where cattle or horses could get a drink when being driven to market. His sister Ann left money in her will for the fountain to be built.

Now sited at Delgatie castle, it was moved from the square in 1947 after children were found to be wasting water and throwing stones in the fountain.
