The SMMSN Summer Scholarship Symposium 2023 took place on Wednesday, 22 November 2023. This is a yearly event where summer scholarship students present their research.
This year's Summer Research students from the Institute of Dentistry were from across our BDS Dentistry year groups.
Max Mcallan, BDS 3 student, won his session's Best Oral Presentation Award during the Summer Research Scholarships Symposium 2023. Max was successful in securing an Aberdeen Summer Research Scholarship (ASRS) for working on a project titled “Quantification of PDL-1 in normal, premalignant, and malignant oral and oropharyngeal tissues using image analysis” under the supervision of Dr Rasha Abu-Eid. Max presented his findings in Session 1 of the Symposium- the ASRS & HENDERSON GLOBAL MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP session.

- Dobrochna Pszenna (BDS5) was supervised by Dr Anand Lalli and Prof Khaled Khalaf – Title: Sustainability considerations for patient’s attending for dental extractions
- Scott Calvert (BDS5) was supervised by Dr Rosa Moreno Lopez and Dr Paul Bond – Title: Which parameters in the construction of complete dentures for edentulous patients improve patient satisfaction and overall quality of life? -
