At the Institute of Dentistry, the Lead for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), forms part of the Institute's Leadership Team and is a member of the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition (SMMSN) ED&I Committee.
Within the Institute our ED&I principles and policies align with the wider SMMSN Strategy.
ED&I issues that are relevant to the Institute specifically are addressed through the Institute EDI committee. It has responsibility for overseeing the implementation of School ED&I related policies within the Institute, including the development of policies & practices to ensure the study and work environment for all students and staff is inclusive, tolerant and accessible.

Mandatory
All new staff are expected to complete mandatory training in Inclusion Essentials and Tackling Racial Bias. If you have been in post for a while, it will be worthwhile reviewing this training every couple of years to demonstrate that your knowledge in current.
Optional
If you suddenly find yourself wondering “what actually is intersectionality?” or “If unconscious bias is unconscious, how would I know if I’m being biased?” then have a look at the optional training below which will give you access to a wider range of shorter courses.
Whether you are working part time or full time, if you want to communicate effectively, teach appropriately and support students fairly, then you may want to consider training on topics such as:

- Intersectionality
- Impact of Micro Behaviours
- Inclusive Language and Communication
