Congratulations to Dr Lorraine Hawick, along with coauthors Alan Thomson and Jen Cleland, on the publication of their thought-provoking commentary "A Culture of Control?" in Medical Education.
The commentary considers students' use of academic time from four very different angles. It concludes that a shift away from quantity‐based measures of time (e.g. simply counting the amount of time a student spends in independent study) and towards quality‐based measures (e.g. through examining students’ engagement with the process of study) may support a more productive and learner‐centred approach.
