CHERI PhD candidates Maeve and Ian had the fantastic opportunity to attend a four day intensive course on qualitative research at the Wilson Centre in October 2018.
The Wilson Centre has one of the largest concentrations in the world of qualitative researchers in the health professions education research field, representing diverse theoretical, disciplinary and methodological perspectives.
The course began with an introduction to research paradigms and discussed the challenges and opportunities within qualitative research in the health professions. Days two and three went on to explore many of the qualitative methodologies and methods within interactive small group exercises, the different ways of using these within participants' own work, and discussed how to plan for effective research outcomes. The final day of the course focused on rigour, reflexivity and ethics, qualitative research dissemination, and patient and public engagement.
