PhD students Gillian and Ben were selected to present in the prestigious 'research stream' of the Association of Medical Educators (AMEE) conference 2018, held 26-29th August in Basel, Switzerland.
Gillian presented a research stream paper that explored residents’ (postgraduate trainees) experiences of support in the workplace, and how this impacted on their career intentions. This was the first research paper that directly explored how the experiences in postgraduate training can have a critical and pivotal impact on the career intentions and behaviours of trainee/resident doctors.
Ben presented a research paper that investigated whether the efforts to attract graduate applicants to UK medical schools were effective in increasing the participation of under-represented socioeconomic groups. He also had a poster display for his other study that looked at the relationship between socio-demographic factors and selection into UK postgraduate medical training programmes.
