Devotions to the Virgin Mary, continued.

Hymn, Virgo templum trinitatis, continued.



The sixth joy is the descent of the holy spirit in tongues of fire, inwardly strengthening, purifying and kindling the ardour of the apostles. The fire came in the form of tongues so that men who had perished by their tongues might be restored. Through it, those who bore the stain of the original sin were made pure again. The author asks the Virgin through this joy to beg her son that in our exile he may blot out our guilt lest it be counted against us for sin at the great judgement The seventh joy is the coronation of the Virgin, when Christ summoned her to heaven, setting her above the thrones, honouring her with his special grace. Thus honour is bestowed upon her because the courts of heaven are unbarred to none except through her. No-one is endowed with virtue unless by the Virgin herself, the guardian of virtue. The author asks the Virgin that we may experience the benign effects of her goodness; that she may preserve us from sin and lead us with the blessed to eternal joy.
