BeWell and Inclusion Week: Staff

BeWell & Inclusion Week takes place from Monday 9th – Friday 13th October 2023

Throughout the week, we host a series of fantastic events and fairs, aimed at helping and empowering you to make positive changes to support your health and wellbeing, whilst also promoting inclusion and celebrating the diversity of our University community. Our events are packed with helpful guidance, information about the support available to you, and lots of exciting competitions, giveaways and prizes! Find out more below.

World Mental Health Day Competition

About the competition

World Mental Health Day – ‘Wear It Green’ Staff Competition!

‘Wear It Green’ for World Mental Health Day and hold a coffee morning or other social break with your colleagues, throughout BeWell and Inclusion Week (9-13th October). Send a picture of your event to wellbeing@abdn.ac.uk and be in with the chance of winning an Afternoon Tea for your team!

How to enter the competition

How To Enter:

  • Organise a team/staff coffee morning or other social break to take place at some time during BeWell and Inclusion Week and invite people to come. (Tip - you can use our poster in the resources pack to print off and put up in your office/area)
     
  • Ask everyone to wear green for the event in support of World Mental health Day and mental health awareness. (Tip – you can use our printout badges in the resource pack to hold your own ‘best dressed’ awards!)
     
  • Take a picture of your team and event and submit it with a short message about what you did via email to wellbeing@abdn.ac.uk (Tip – make sure to use the decoration bunting to brighten up your event for the picture!)
     
  • Printout some of the activities and quizzes from the resources pack we send you and have fun!

Events

BeWell Network

The BeWell Network is made up of various informal interest based activity groups. From gardening to cooking - there are plenty groups to choose from! This BeWell & Inclusion Week, why not try one of our taster sessions? These are a great way to connect with colleagues, take part in activities you enjoy or get involved with something new!

Crafting and Creativity Group Taster: 10th October

Tuesday 10 October, Multi-Faith Chaplaincy, 5:30pm

The BeWell Network Crafting and Creativity Group meet monthly on a Tuesday evening for a cake, coffee and craft catch-up. The group is made up of colleagues from across the University and is open to all. The group mainly consists of knitters and crocheters, but any keen crafter is welcome to join! Complete beginners are also welcome. 

If you are keen to begin your crafting journey, meet new colleagues and get creative, join the Crafting and Creativity Group for their taster session on Tuesday 10th October - they're always looking to welcome new members!

 

Social Running Group Taster: 10th October

Tuesday 10 October, Elphinstone Lawn, 12:15pm

The BeWell Network Running Group meet weekly on a Tuesday lunchtime for a social run. The group is made up of colleagues from across the University and is open to all - from complete beginners, those looking to dust off their running shoes, regular runners, and anyone in-between, the running sessions can be tailored to the abilities of those attending. 

If you are keen to begin your running journey, meet new colleagues or boost your wellbeing, join the Running Group for their taster session on Tuesday 10th October - they're always looking to welcome new members!

How to book?

Book your activity online or via the ASV app, available on all iOS and Android devices.

Need to leave a class early?

Not a problem. Indeed, this is a great option for those new to exercise or short on time. Simply let your instructor know.

Prefer something different?

Try lunch time badminton, pickleball, squash or table tennis (all booked via the ASV app). Alternatively, enjoy the gym, a swim, or the athletics track; followed by a sauna, steam, or the café.

Travelling from Foresterhill?

The U9 campus shuttle service runs between Foresterhill and Old Aberdeen weekdays at 11.45, 12.15, and 12.45, returning at 13.05, 13.35, and 14.05 (a cycle will take approximately 11 minutes).
