Students funded by the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS)
If you are resident in Scotland and study full-time in Scotland, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) should pay your tuition fees. For all enquiries relating to SAAS, please consult them directly.
Applying to SAAS
You must apply directly to SAAS for funding for each year of your studies. If your application is successful, SAAS will send you an award letter within 21 days. You can track the progress of your application online.
Please note that the University does not require you to provide us with a copy of your SAAS funding letter as evidence of SAAS funding. We receive SAAS reports weekly so sponsor records are updated regularly.
EU Students
From 2021-22, new European Union (EU) students who live in the EU will no longer be able to access university tuition funding from the Scottish Government.
EU Students who started their study during or prior to the academic year 2020/21 and are currently in receipt of SAAS funding will remain eligible for tuition fee support from the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for the duration of their undergraduate degree, as long as they do not move backwards in years of study. For example, if you move from year 2 to year 1, for whatever reason, such as a change in course, you must have applied for the EU settlement scheme by 30 June 2021 otherwise SAAS may reassess your funding eligibility.
Repeating a period of study
If you have to repeat a period of study or if you have already been funded for another degree, you may have to pay your own fees. SAAS can give you further advice about this.
SAAS student loans
If you are a Scottish student, you can apply for a SAAS student loan when you apply for tuition fee funding. Loan payments are paid monthly; and provided you have submitted your application to SAAS in good time, you should receive the first instalment within 3 or 4 days of registering as a student. Make sure you have enough money to support yourself for those first few days and please check whether the loan payment is in your account before spending money.
Grants
If you are eligible, SAAS can offer supplementary grants or a Young Student’s Bursary. Please consult SAAS for more information on grants.
