University jumps 48 places Stonewall Workplace Equality Index

We are delighted to announce that the University has jumped up 48 places in the annual Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. The Index is an evidence-based benchmarking tool used to assess employers’ achievements and progress on LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) equality in the workplace. The University’s progress is significant given that 2015 has seen the highest number of submissions to the index since it launched in 2004. MI5 were named Employer of the Year 2016.

Recent research indicates that across Scotland, less than 50% of LGB employees feel comfortable being out to all colleagues and customers.  The University believes that employees can be most productive and fulfilled at work when they can be themselves in the workplace.  The University’s LGBT Staff Network Group works closely with the Equality & Diversity team to ensure that the University of Aberdeen continues to be a welcoming and supportive place for LGBT+ staff and students.

The Network Group will next meet on Wednesday 3rd February 5.00 – 7.00pm in the St Machar Bar for monthly drinks.
