Women in STEMM Subjects - Athena SWAN Focus Groups

Women in STEMM Subjects - Athena SWAN Focus Groups

What would make a real difference to your career?

The University has signed up to the principles of Athena SWAN which aim to support women’s careers in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine) subjects.

We have already achieved an Institutional Bronze award and are committed to continually striving to achieve higher recognition.

Two focus groups will be held this month to ascertain our progress so far and identify the areas where we can improve our practice to support women.  We want to hear what colleagues think could make a real difference.

If you would like to contribute to these discussions, we would be delighted to hear from you.  Perhaps you have experience of the promotions process, work part-time, have caring responsibilities or have met with challenges in furthering your career.

Although Athena SWAN focusses on supporting women in these areas, the University strongly believes that initiatives which support women actually benefit everyone at the University.  Male colleagues are also very welcome to attend the Focus Groups and share their experiences and ideas.

The Focus Groups will be held on:

Friday, 11 July                      12 – 2.00 pm             Level 5 Committee Room, IMS, Foresterhill

Wednesday, 30 July          12 – 2.00 pm             Video-Conferencing Suite, University Office

A sandwich lunch will be provided.

Spaces are limited, so if you would like to attend please e-mail Janine Chalmers, Equality and Diversity Adviser janine.chalmers@abdn.ac.uk stating which session you would like to attend and which School you work in.

The Focus Groups will be facilitated by Geraldine Wooley from Equate Scotland, a leading gender equality organisation based at Edinburgh Napier University.  You can find out more about them here: http://www.equatescotland.org.uk/

If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please contact Janine Chalmers, Equality and Diversity Adviser, by e-mail janine.chalmers@abdn.ac.uk or phone 01224 273883
