Interdisciplinary Centre Director appointments

Dear colleagues,

Further to earlier calls inviting applications for the roles of Director – Interdisciplinary Centre for Social Inclusion & Cultural Diversity and Director - Interdisciplinary Centre for Health, Nutrition and Wellbeing, successful appointments have been made.

  • Dr Rachel Shanks has been appointed to the role of Director – Interdisciplinary Centre for Social Inclusion & Cultural Diversity
  • Professor Lesley Anderson has been appointed to the role of Director - Interdisciplinary Centre for Health, Nutrition and Wellbeing

Both will take up their posts with immediate effect (starting from September 1).

Dr Rachel Shanks has research interests that include school uniform, dress codes and appearance policies that have helped drive forward a national agenda. Rachel brings a rich and experienced background to the role that includes a career spanning higher education, community education, the trade union movement and the voluntary sector.

Professor Lesley Anderson brings to her new Interdisciplinary Director role a wealth of experience utilising healthcare data from across the world. Her work specialises in combining health data science and public health approaches to improve cancer research and patient outcomes. Lesley is currently leading the world’s first nationwide case-control study of myeloproliferative neoplasms and recently was part of the team that provided evidence that AI-based approaches could help spot more breast cancers following mammography screening.

I am very much looking forward to working with Rachel and Lesley in these roles and I am sure you will join me in congratulating them on their appointments.

Best wishes

Nick
