Student Recruitment Graduate Trainee, Billy O'Keeffe, has been working with the Scottish Surfing Federation (SSF) for two years, helping to run the annual Scottish Universities Surfing Championships.
Sharing his enthusiasm for the sport, Billy said: "Outside of work, I'm one of the many surfers here in Aberdeen. For the third year in a row as the SSF's Universities and Colleges Liaison Officer, me and my team will be running the Scottish Universities Surfing Championships 2024 down at Fittie Beach on 6 April 2024, from 7:30am to 5pm, here in Aberdeen.
"I started running the Championships two years ago as a University of Aberdeen student. Having taken on a more formal role within the SSF as well as also getting a job at the University, the team and I will be running the third iteration of the Championships taking place next Saturday. This is a great event that not only promotes a growing Olympic sport here in Scotland, but also the fantastic beach here in Aberdeen.
"This year we hope to see over 50 competitors from eight university surf clubs across Scotland compete for the SSF Quaich Trophy, awarded to the best overall performing surf club. Last year Aberdeen University Surf Club won in the men’s division. Will they be able to get the Quaich this year from St. Andrews University Surf Club? We shall see..."
Make sure to head along to Fittie on Saturday to watch the Championships. The event may roll over to Sunday if conditions are too windy.
