The University would like to remind our community that smoking is not permitted inside buildings or anywhere where smoke may enter buildings (e.g. near entrances, exits, windows, air ventilation intakes etc.) as well as anywhere on a hospital site such as Foresterhill.
The main aim of these rules is to protect people from the adverse health effects of passive smoking and the University is obliged to do all it can to ensure everyone on our sites follow these rules.
These requirements arise from both UK Health and Safety at Work legislation and the Smoke Free legislation which, in Scotland, is the Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005.
They also help reduce the risk of fire and the smells etc. in some parts of our buildings, which are a nuisance, especially to non-smokers.
Please note that the University policy applies equally to electronic alternatives (vaping) as to traditional cigarettes/cigars.
Thank you for your co-operation.
More detail is available in the University Policy on Smoking in the Workplace.
Help on how to stop smoking (smoking cessation) is also available from NHS Grampian.
