Remembering Alan Main

Graduate, honorary graduate, former Chaplain to the University and former Professor of Practical Theology at Christ’s College, the Very Reverend Dr Alan Main, has died.

The Aberdeen-born academic and theologian - who spent 20 years as a serving a RA chaplain with 153 Artillery Support Regiment, Royal Corps of Transport - completed Arts and Divinity degrees at Aberdeen and also studied in New York before returning to Scotland.

Committed to educational, city, community and church affairs, he was involved in various organisations including Grampian Marriage Guidance, Cruse Bereavement Care and was a chairman of the Joint Ethical Committee of Grampian Health Board and the University. He was Patron of the Seven Incorporated Trades and a well-liked and much respected person.

Professor Main also served as Moderator at the 1998 General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. His funeral will take place at noon on Tuesday 12 December at Tarves Kirk.
