Black History Month 2023

Find out about the University's programme of events for Black History Month 2023

Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to take part in events taking place at the University this month in celebration of Black History Month 2023.

Details of the events are available via our dedicated webpage, where you’ll also find a range of resources that support our efforts to celebrate, educate, and inspire our community as we stand against racism and in support of diversity.

Last October we proudly introduced our Antiracism Strategy, and our commitment to this important work remains unwavering as we actively implement the Antiracism Strategy and Action Plan across the University. Our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusivity can be seen through our appointment of Race Equality Champions as well as initiatives including ABDN:365 and our Inclusion Calendar

For staff members, we encourage you to join the Race Equality Network. This network provides a confidential and supportive platform for sharing experiences while actively contributing to the advancement of race equality within our institution. With over 100 members, it is open to all staff and postgraduate research students. To join, please email racenetwork@abdn.ac.uk.

For our students, we encourage participation in the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Students' Forum, affiliated under the Aberdeen University Students' Association (AUSA). This forum represents all students who identify under the BAME umbrella. It serves as an advocate against prejudice and discrimination faced by minority ethnic students on campus while fostering a culture of critical thinking about issues related to race.

As Black History Month 2023 gets underway, we ask you to join us in standing against racism and celebrating diversity and inclusion across our University.

With best wishes
