Retirement of Professor Ruth Taylor

Announcing the retirement of Professor Ruth Taylor

Dear colleagues,

After four years of providing an exceptional contribution to the work of the University of Aberdeen, Professor Ruth Taylor, Vice Principal Education, has decided to retire from the University and will leave on the 7th of February 2024.

Ruth has driven forward the University’s Education Strategy with great energy, enthusiasm, and commitment, making significant progress during her time in post. The quality of Ruth’s leadership of our education portfolio is exemplified by our 2023 NSS results which put us in second place in the devolved nations for overall satisfaction and 10th in the UK for the average score across all NSS indicators.

In addition to leading on the Education Strategy Ruth has also had a key role in developing and progressing the University’s Antiracism Strategy and wider areas of equality, diversity and inclusion through her role as Chair of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Ruth said: “I have very much enjoyed working with colleagues and students to take forward developments in education and in the development of our Antiracism Strategy. I am proud of what we have achieved together as a university community and I am looking forward to the next few months as we continue with that work.

“Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the work in my portfolio areas. It has been a real pleasure to meet so many amazing people who do such great things for our students and our colleagues. Working at the University of Aberdeen has been a highlight in my career.”

Ruth will be hugely missed across the University and by all members of the Senior Management Team.

We will shortly be proceeding to advertisement for Ruth’s replacement, and I provide for your consideration the further particulars for the position. As for all SMT appointments, this post will be advertised externally. Internal applications are also very welcome. The role is being advertised formally by GatenbySanderson and is available to view here

Best wishes
