Dear colleagues
The National Student Survey (NSS) results are out and I am delighted to let you know that our University ranks 2nd across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland¹ for overall student satisfaction, and ranks 10th in the UK out of 120 universities². This is a brilliant achievement and is our third year in a row of excellent results demonstrating our continued focus on the student experience as a community of university colleagues.
Out of 120 UK higher education institutions, we are:
- 1st in the UK for IT resources and facilities
- 1st in the UK for giving students the opportunity to provide feedback on their courses
- In the top 10 in the UK across the areas of learning resources, academic support, organisation and management, and course teaching
I am also delighted to let you know that the University is 1st in the UK for the following subjects:
- Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
- Business Studies
- History of Art, Architecture and Design
- Linguistics
- Philosophy
Coming on the heels of a strong performance in the Times Higher World University ranking, the Guardian, Times and Sunday Times rankings and the QS World University rankings, these results demonstrate our commitment to excellence in our education and delivering a great student experience.
Further information will be shared once we have examined the findings in more detail, but in the meantime, I would like to thank you all for your hard work and support in helping to deliver this fantastic result.

¹ There have been changes to the NSS this year which means that the overall satisfaction question is now only applicable to universities in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
² The ranking is an aggregated mean average of the positive responses percentage across the 25 questions that are asked at all institutions, across the University. The ranking is based on the Guardian University Guide 2023 edition list of universities.
