Head of School of Education appointed

Update on the new Head of School of Education appointment

Dear colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that following a recruitment process Catriona MacDonald has been appointed as Head of School of Education. Catriona has held the position of Interim Head of School since October 2022 and will therefore take up her position as Head of School with immediate effect.

Catriona joined the University in 2008. Prior to this she was a teacher and therefore brought a wealth of experience to the School of Education. Since her appointment in 2008 Catriona has held several positions in the School such ALM and Director of Learning & Teaching and was Deputy Head of School throughout David Smith’s tenure.

Welcoming her appointment, Catriona said: “I feel privileged and honoured to be given an opportunity to lead the School of Education. Our School has made significant progress in the last few years under Professor David Smith’s leadership. I believe it is important that we continue to deliver excellent teaching and student experience to our UG, PGT and PGR students while conducting high quality research that has an impact locally, nationally and internationally.

"I look forward to continuing to work with all my colleagues in Education on implementation of the University of Aberdeen 2040 Strategy, ensuring that the School offers a supportive environment for staff and students where people feel appreciated, empowered and supported, and are able to develop and progress in their career."

I know you will join me in congratulating Catriona on her appointment and I look forward to working closely with her as her vision for the School develops.

Best wishes

Karl
