Do you want to avoid a personal data breach? An easy way to do so is to turn off Outlook AutoComplete. This is where Outlook predicts who you want to email from the first letters you type of their name – and sometimes it will predict wrongly, leading to incorrect recipients being selected and a personal data breach occurring.

You can turn off AutoComplete by following our Toolkit guide which walks you through how to do so.

Even though AutoComplete can be handy, year upon year we see a number of personal data breaches caused by it.  Any benefit gained from time saved is outweighed by the damage and distress caused to people whose information has been wrongly shared.

Why not try switching it off and giving it a go, you will see that it hardly takes anymore time and it gives you peace of mind that you are less likely to make a mistake.

If you have any queries about how to do so, please contact the Information Governance Team at dpa@abdn.ac.uk

The University has established a network of Information Champions to help you with your data protection and information security queries.

Please see the Staffnet page to find out who your Champion is and how to contact them.

They will be able to point you to the relevant guidance and put you in touch with the Information Governance and Information Security teams for your more complex queries.

If you have any questions, contact your Champion or get in touch with the Information Governance team at dpa@abdn.ac.uk or the Information Security team.
