Dear colleagues,
National pay negotiations between the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) and the trade unions ended recently for the 2022-23 pay round with a final pay offer of an uplift of 3% on the pay spine. In addition, there is a higher uplift to the pay points below spine points 20, up to a maximum of 9% at spinal point 3.
As part of the final offer UCEA also put forward commitments in respect of a number of non-pay issues including career development, workload management and gender, ethnicity and disability pay gaps.
At a national level the trade unions - UCU, UNISON, Unite and EIS - have not accepted this offer. Following the conclusion of a dispute resolution process UCEA have advised that the final pay offer should be implemented as it is unreasonable to expect staff to wait further, especially as the pay offer benefits more widely those on the lower scale points.
We believe that the proposed pay offer is fair, and it is further enhanced by pay progression for staff not yet at the top of their grade. Therefore, as pay rises are normally implemented on 1 August each year, arrangements are being made to implement the uplift in the August payroll.
Best wishes
Debbie
