An opportunity to show support for the Armed Forces

Armed Forces Reserves Day, which was on 23 June, and Armed Forces Day on Saturday (26 June), provide  an opportunity to show support for the Armed Forces.

The University signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2016 and was also awarded the  Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award in the same year. The Covenant is a promise from the University to those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces and their families. It promises the University will do all it can to ensure that this community is treated fairly and not disadvantaged in their day-to-day lives.

Armed Forces Reserves Day was created to highlight and recognise the valuable contribution Reservists make to our Armed Forces. Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces to ensure that should their country require them; they would be ready to serve as part of the military. Some of our University Staff are Reservists. They are integral to protecting the nation’s security at home and overseas, particularly providing capability in specialist areas such as medical and cyber security.

Armed Forces Day enables the public to show support for the Armed Forces and provides a much-valued morale boost for the troops and their families.
