Brexit - advice for staff and students travelling overseas on University business

The University is offering assistance to staff and students travelling overseas on University business throughout the period of the UK's scheduled departure from the EU on October 31st.

We are currently collating information on University travel arrangements from now until the end of November via Schools and Directorates, to help us get an overview of assistance that may be required in the event of any disruption.

We advise all staff and students to check the following before travelling on University business:

  • Their passport has six months’ validity
  • They have University travel insurance. Click on this link for information on how to apply. The section marked ‘Scope of Cover’ clearly sets out the level of cover available.
  • Staff are encouraged to book travel via Diversity Travel whenever possible, in order that Diversity can provide assistance in the event of any disruption.
  • EU staff and students without settled or pre-settled status should take proof of residence with them (e.g. council tax bill).  Students without proof of residence can visit the Infohub where they will be provided with necessary documentation, free of charge. Alternatively, students can email brexit@abdn.ac.uk with their request.

We recommend that anyone who thinks they might be affected familiarise themselves with the travel advice provided on the University’s dedicated Brexit webpages, as well as our general advice for travelling overseas.

If anyone has any specific queries then please contact our dedicated email address, brexit@abdn.ac.uk, and your enquiry will be dealt with as soon as possible.
