Charges for takeaway paper cups - saving a 'latte' waste

From Tuesday 1 October, hot drinks served in a paper cup from University outlets will carry a 35p surcharge.

The surcharge aims to encourage a reduction in paper cup use (283,130 paper cups were used on campus last year). Staff can present a ‘sealable’ cup, mug or flask to avoid the charge.

New staff will be given a free reusable sealable mug (sMUG) as part of the staff induction process, while new students can collect a sMUG from the infohub.

Current staff and returning students can purchase a sMUG from Cafe outlets at a supported price of £2.00.
