Classroom software re-registration

Classroom software re-registration

We are looking at classroom software provision for academic year 2019/20 and would like you to tell us what your software or upgrade requirements are.

What is happening?

We will begin the PC rollout in July, so it is essential you let us know your requirements before 31 May. If you do not, we cannot guarantee the software will be available as required.

We will be deploying Windows 10 64-bit on all IT Services managed student classrooms and Lecture Theatre PCs.  We will be using Microsoft Office 2019 and Internet Explorer will be the default browser.

What should you do?

Departmental Software

Please review the current Departmental software lists below.

Let us know which application you still require, and if there are any upgrades, new applications, or specific configuration requirements you need for academic year 2019/20.

Don’t assume that someone else will request commonly used software, or that colleagues will request software on your behalf.

Remember that classroom software must be licensed for concurrent use.  If you have any queries about licensing please get in touch.

Software provided by IT Services

You’ll find details of proposed upgrades to software provided by IT Services at www.abdn.ac.uk/it/documents/proposed.pdf. Please let us know if you have any comments on what we propose.

Software patches and software updates

Software updates often include critical patches to security vulnerabilities. As part of the University’s Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation, we are required to keep classroom software versions up-to-date. This means we may have to update software during term-time or, in extreme cases, remove software completely if security patches are no longer available.
