We were all saddened to hear of the passing of Professor Alan Maynard, Professor of Health Economics at the University of York, on 2 February 2018
Alan was a valued friend and colleague to many in HERU. He was an External Advisor to HERU for many years. HERU were without a Director between March 1999 and December 2001. During this period Alan took responsibility for directing the Unit, overseeing HERU’s successful review by its main funder, the Scottish Government.
In recognition of his contribution to HERU, Alan was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) from the University of Aberdeen in 2002.
We will always be thankful for Alan’s support and contributions to HERU. Alan made a huge contribution to the development and application of health economics in the UK and internationally, influencing UK policy in a number of areas. He will be greatly missed.
