Jamf Pro - Device Management
for University Apple Devices

We are introducing Jamf Pro to University-owned iPhones, iPads, and Macs to help us protect and manage your devices.

What is happening?

If you use a University-owned iOS device, we will be in touch in the coming weeks to ask you to enrol your device with Jamf Pro, the Device Management solution for Apple computers and iOS devices.

If you use a University-owned Mac desktop computer, we will be working behind the scenes to enrol the computer in Jamf Pro. You should notice no change to your device.

Why is this happening?

The use of smartphones and tablets for University business is on the increase and Apple devices are an integral part of the University’s IT environment. These mobile and specialist technologies bring many advantages - such as more flexible working and increased productivity - but there is also an increased risk of the data on them being compromised.

To mitigate this threat, we are deploying Jamf Pro to all University iPhones, iPads and Macs, to help us manage them, as we already do for devices in our Microsoft Windows environment.

What benefits does Jamf Pro bring?

Jamf Pro will allow us to install updates remotely, deploy apps, and ensure security updates are current. And we will be able to protect your data by locking your device if you report it lost or stolen.

You will also gain instant access to the app self-service, allowing you to download and install approved apps as part of our Apple Volume Purchase Programme (VPP).

By implementing Jamf Pro, we will be able to provide enhanced and comprehensive management of University Apple devices, as well as ensuring the University complies with data protection legislation.

What do you need to do?

If you have a University iOS device, we will contact you over the coming weeks with simple instructions for enrolling your device with Jamf Pro.

If you have a University Mac Desktop, you do not need to do anything. We will enrol your device in Jamf Pro and there should be no noticeable change to your device.
