Professor Steve Heys and Tom Scotland will commemorate Scots who fought in the Great War by using the poetry of Scots, both men and women, who were deeply affected by the war and who gave expression to their feelings through verse. Some of the poets who fought were killed, while others survived, forever scarred by their experiences. The poetry of women, who during the conflict had to wait anxiously at home for news, gave particular expression to the change in rural way of life in the North East Scotland in the aftermath of the Great War, because so many of its young men never came home.

Soprano Moira Docherty and her accompanist on the piano, Harry Williamson, will add beautiful and moving music to create a rich blend of narrative, poetry and song which will transport you back in time and will give much cause for reflection. Moira`s finale “We Will Remember Them,” originally written in 2015 to commemorate the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, will provide a fitting conclusion to the evening`s commemorative event.

The event will be held in Elphinstone Hall with an overspill video link in the King's College Conference centre.

More information on Moira Docherty can be found by visiting her website.
