University of Aberdeen welcomes third Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence

A leading entrepreneur has joined the University of Aberdeen as part of a scheme designed to boost industrial links and inspire staff and students to become successful entrepreneurs.

Dr Christine Reynet, Director of pharmaceutical drug discovery consulting company McC+R&D Consulting Ltd, has been selected for the Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) scheme.

She joins fellow Entrepreneurs in Residence, Paddy Collins of Italmatch Chemicals GB Ltd and Steve Aitken of Intelligent Plant, on the prestigious Royal Society program which allows experienced industrial scientists and entrepreneurs to spend one day a week at a university, developing projects that promote innovation and encourage entrepreneurship.

With over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical sector, Christine consults on the scientific, strategic and operational aspects of the pharmaceutical drug discovery process and has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing industrial life sciences. She also has an extensive experience in facilitating and developing translational research activities from academic life sciences.

As an Entrepreneur in Residence, she will join Paddy and Steve in bringing expertise and insights to the University community, sharing knowledge and experience with faculty, staff, and students.

Hosted at the Institute of Medical Sciences, the overall objective of Dr Reynet’s residency is to help develop a strategic and operational model and guidelines to identify and advance innovative, competitive and impactful translational research projects.

Professor Mirela Delibegovic, Dean for Industrial Engagement and Knowledge Transfer, added: "With over 25 years of experience in the life sciences sector Christine brings a wealth of knowledge that will enhance our opportunities for developing our industrial links and inspiring the entrepreneurs of tomorrow. We are very much looking forward to working with Christine and benefiting from her insights.”

Professor Peter Edwards, Vice-Principal for Regional Engagement at the University, added: “Last year we were delighted to welcome Paddy and Steve as our first Royal Society Entrepreneurs in Residence, and I am delighted that Christine has joined the team.

“Our EiRs are one aspect of a strategic intervention across the University to enhance our engagement with business, and I look forward to working with Christine, Paddy and Steve as we aim to achieve our ambition to drive enhanced levels of innovation-driven entrepreneurship.

“Together their knowledge, experience, and entrepreneurial spirit are an invaluable resource to our students, faculty, and researchers.”
