Norway's Gunnar Staalesen, Sweden's Kristina Ohlsson and Thomas Rydahl from Denmark will headline with renowned crime writers Denise Mina and Christopher Brookmyre. Including the North-east's Stuart MacBride from 23-25 February 2018.
This new Aberdeen crime writing festival Granite Noir opens today with over 20 events, including family-friendly events for ‘Little Criminals’, a ‘poisoned’ high tea and the chance to ‘solve’ a mystery from the city’s past. It is designed for readers and writers alike, ranging from workshops and panels hosted by star authors, to exhibitions and film screenings, falling into several categories:
- Most Wanted (headline events)
- In Conversation sessions
- Nordic Noir
- North-east Noir

- Crimewatch (film screenings)
- Granite Noir Workshops.
It opens with Crime-stoppers Turned Crime Writers - Stuart MacBride and DCI Daley author Denzil Meyrick and Kate London (fascinating background of working in London’s Metropolitan Police, France’s police nationale and the Met’s Homicide Command). Followed by Atmospheric Pressure - Doug Johnstone, Sarah Ward and participants will discover how the novel's location is as important, as tracing the killer. On Friday evening there will also be a couple of In Conversation events with Stuart MacBride and Chris Brookmyre.
