Described by Sir David Attenborough as 'the most important documentary of our times', it explores the fragile state of our oceans, uncovers alarming truths about plastic waste, and reveals working solutions that can be put into immediate effect.
The global production of plastic continues to grow and a significant proportion of this ends up in our oceans. It is predicted that by 2025, without improvements to waste management, there will be 1 ton of plastic for every 3 tons of fish. Whether large or microscopic the presence of plastic waste in the oceans is already having a detrimental effect on marine life.
Following the screening at the James Hutton Institute, Craigiebuckler, Aberdeen, there will be time for discussion with James Hutton Institute scientists whose research is contributing to the understanding of social and environmental issues raised in the film. The evening will conclude with the opportunity to join others in Aberdeen in reducing our own plastic consumption with a plastic-free challenge.
