The Elphinstone Review: Our student-led academic journal

The Elphinstone Review is the University of Aberdeen's student-led academic journal. Our aim is to publish the very best work produced by undergraduate students at the University, while providing students with invaluable experience of editing and publishing.

Founded in 2015, The Elphinstone Review started as an Arts and Social Sciences journal. Since then, however, its scope has expanded to receive submissions from all disciplines. As a result, the editorial board each year ideally consists of students from all schools and all levels of study.

Every year, during late September and early October, we send out a Call for Editors via email and social media. Once the editorial board has been recruited, a Call for Papers is sent out - normally with a January deadline. The journal accepts one submission per student, with a maximum of 4000 words. The editorial board then reviews all submissions anonymously and chooses the best 12 papers to be published in that year's volume. Each author is paired up with an editor in order to prepare their article for printing and publication towards the end of the spring semester.
